			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>In this series of articles about home food dehydrators we have covered a lot of material. I would like to conclude by giving you a food dehydrator, four unit comparison with plastic and stainless steel in mind. The machines that will be looked at individually are: Weston model 74-1001-w stainless steel, GooD4U ten trays, L Equip Filter Pro, and Nesco/American Snackmaster Express Dehydrator. When making a decision on a food dehydrator all things should be considered, including the type of drying for the family and how often and will the unit be used for more than drying food to help with the family budget.</p>
<p>Nesco/American Snackmaster Express Dehydrator: This is a great smaller unit to work with. It comes with four trays and can be expanded to twelve. It goes from 95 to 155 degrees for temperature control, more than adequate for all of your drying need. Air flow is from top down with less likelihood of flavor mixing form different drying items. The air circulation system does not require you to rotate trays during the process. This is an all around good unit.</p>
<p>The L Equip Filter Pro Dehydrator is an excellent dehydrator in an efficient rectangle shape tray. This allows for maximum use of tray space and increased drying efficiency. It is a moderate priced machine and is a breeze to work with. This unit can have extra trays added for use. Up to twenty is the capacity. This makes for a large unit. This is definitely a step up in home food dehydrators. It can be found easily on the net and extra trays are also accessible.</p>
<p>GooD4U ten tray with digital timer dehydrator: This machine is in a different league of equipment than the two prior. The air flow system is horizontal from the rear with cross tray flow and exit. The process used is a step far above the other types of machines. From all of the plastic machines this one, by far, is one of the best.</p>
<p>The Weston Stainless Steel Food Dehydrator is the last, not the least. This is truly a commercial machine that can be used in a non-commercial application. You can welcome this machine home any day of the week. It will last for many seasons of use and keep on running. The Weston is the most expensive of the machine recommended here but at $247.95 it is attainable by most.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Having sold and used them for years the question is often asked. Which is best, a dehydrator made of plastic or stainless steel? Is it just the materials they are made of that are in question? Is there a difference in performance? Is there a best food dehydrator? All great questions and too much to cover in one article, we will look at construction of a plastic dehydrator.</p>
<p>The use of plastic is by far the quickest and easiest to manufacture. The use of polycarbonate as a case material is a must for it is almost indestructible. In a home setting this is a must. How many times have we moved something around and &#8220;bumped&#8221; it and the next thing you know, its broken. A cabinet made of polycarbonate is strong. Polycarbonate is also a natural heat insulator. This works well in food dehydration.</p>
<p>Another consideration when looking at food equipment is the use of polypropylene #5 for food contact surfaces. While polycarbonate materials are outstanding case material, they are not good rack material. Polypropylene is the safest of the plastic materials for direct food contact. FDA approved polypropylene #5 is used for direct food contact surfaces. This is seen in the Excalibur food dehydrators.</p>
<p>One more consideration is the use of FDA approved polypropylene #5 for it is safe to use in low temperature settings. In applications under 160 degrees, there is no threat of fumes coming from the plastic. In cheap food dehydrators this is a concern! Look at information on the packaging or the website to understand the materials being used.</p>
